Doing shifts sounds all well and good but I am repeatedly finding nationals refuse to pay me for the shifts because they know how desperate people are for work right now. It seems like this industry is increasingly expecting entrants and even those - like me - with a few years experience to offer slave labour, all in name of seeing your name in print. In my view, the recession is being used by many media outlets as a way to take advantage of those trying to get a food on the ladder, amazingly, even more than they were before.

You need to make sure you’re in the industry when it’s back on the way up.

When? Not if? Someone's an optimist.

Hey Dave really enjoyed reading this piece, in a kind of 'we're all doomed' type of way.
As a second year J-student I am obviously worried about the current job market and constantly trying to improve my web skills in a bid to improve my employability.
The simple idea of working nights spending your days as a journalist is an idea which never occurred and I'm sure many others, but don't take it too offence when I say that I hope never to put this advice into practice
