One important thing I really like about website blogs is that they provoke a thought in my head. After that happens, I feel as I need to provide feedback expecting it can be interesting to other people.

If you wish to listen to BBC Radio on the iPhone - I strongly recommend <a href="//www.bbcstreams.com”" rel="nofollow">BBC Radio iPhone Streams</a> - it is easily the most convenient way to listen to BBC Radio on the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and it's free at BBCStreams.com.

I still think there's a while to go before everyone's entirely comfortable with long online video. Most people will need to get shiny widescreen monitors first, and for anyone living in Hull there's no hope while the KC monopoly ensures we all have crap broadband speeds!
But you're totally right-VJing is on the verge of becoming something more potent. My only worry with it being the saving grace of newspapers is that most papers are just giving their reporters cameras. They've had some training, but you just got to look at the videos on, for example, the Hull Daily Mail website, and there's a long way to go before they get watchable.

Good luck with your project-I'm just getting some kit together myself with a similar plan in mind. Here's to 2009 being the VJ year!

Nice post Dave. You said:

Video journalism finally solves all the problems:

- How to stay unique — no-one has your pictures

- How to save money — no big production projects here, folks. One man, a camera and a laptop

- How to make money — people don’t mind watching adverts when it comes to long content

And I totally agree. There is opportunity there, for sure.

What worries me still, though, is whether it will work so well on a local level. I have the sneaking suspicion that local news is forever loosing readers and all the video in the world won't make a difference. But I could well be wrong. This transition phase from largely print to online AND print is going to painful/interesting/revealing. I am a NCTJ student at the moment and really worried that there just won't be the jobs out there for me on local rags...I am blabbering...good post and good blog dude.
