This may seem a silly question but, if I download iPlayer Desktop, does it actually become my computer desktop by default, so every time I wake the computer up I see the iPlayer? I don’t imagine it does but I wanted to check first as I’d hate that to happen.

To be clear, John, you’ll find the issue of downloading outside of the UK isn’t tied to software… or even the BBC. Remember, each show in iPlayer requires a licence. The hoops jumped through to even get it in the UK for download were numerous.

The argument, of course, is that why should someone in the US get free access to shows that we — as UK licence fee payers — pay money for? Opening up the iPlayer to an international audience would increase the server load by several 100% (you’d imagine) and it’s probably unfair that the UK and the UK alone should fit the bill.

That of course is my own view and not the BBC’s.

…but you can only download content in the UK. So all the fanfare is lost on me. I am a Mac user in the US so to me it’s useless.
